Kirby Hayes Honoured with Outstanding Service Award

At their June 11, 2003 gala evening at the Canadian International Petroleum Conference in Calgary, the Petroleum Society of CIM honored Kirby Hayes with an outstanding service award. Established in 1984, the award recognizes outstanding or meritorious service to the Society or the petroleum industry, and is presented with the citation: “An award for industrious participation in the affairs of the Petroleum Society and the CIM, for guidance and inspiration of the membership, and contribution to the body of knowledge of the petroleum industry.”

Kirby was recognized for his many years of service to the Lloydminster Section of the Petroleum Society. He was instrumental in getting the Lloydminster Section active again after an industry downturn in the mid 80s, and was very involved with the annual Heavy Oil Symposium each fall in Lloydminster, as well as numerous dinner meetings, workshops and short courses. He was instrumental in the start of the Lloydminster Petroleum Society of CIM Web site, and the OTS Heavy Oil Science Center Donation.

Kirby stepped down in April 2001, after serving most recently as chairman, and prior to that as technical meeting coordinator.

Also recognized with outstanding service awards were Greg Calpas, who worked tirelessly for the Lloydminster Section of the Petroleum Society, and served as chairman and secretary, prior to his transfer with Husky Energy to Ram River, and Rob Morgan, now vice-president Corporate Development for Petrovera Resources Limited, who served as Lloydminster Section chairman in 1989.
